Domain forwarding is an essential tool for managing your online presence, allowing you to automatically guide visitors from one web address to another. This technique is particularly useful for making a website accessible under multiple URLs. When a URL that has been set to forward is accessed, the visitor is taken to a different webpage.

Setting Up Domain Forwarding

To forward a domain:

1. Ensure you have a domain added to your Hostyt hosting plan.

2. Navigate to the Redirects section within your hosting control panel.

3. Select the domain you wish to forward from the drop-down menu.

4. To redirect the entire domain, leave the document root field empty. To redirect a specific folder, input the desired path (e.g., http://public_html/wp-admin/).

5. Enter the target URL where you wish to redirect visitors in the final field.

Changes should take effect within five to ten minutes after saving.

Types of Domain Forwarding

Hostyt offers two domain forwarding options:

• Forwarding Only: This method redirects visitors to the chosen URL, updating the browser address bar to display the destination URL. For example, forwarding example.com to example.net will update the visitor's browser to show example.net.

• Forwarding with Masking (Domain Alias): This option not only redirects visitors but also allows you to maintain your original domain name in the browser's address bar. It also provides the opportunity to add meta-tags for SEO purposes. For example, example.com can be forwarded with masking to example.net, but the address bar will continue to display example.com.

Email Forwarding

Separate from website forwarding, email forwarding redirects emails from one domain to another. This feature is invaluable for businesses or individuals undergoing a domain change, ensuring that all communications are seamlessly transitioned to the new domain.
